This development area in the heart of Cork City branching off Cork’s Main Street, St. Patrick’s Street. The area was first urbanised in the early eighteenth century and was established as part of the main commercial area with Cork City. As a result it carries important architectural heritage imbued with cultural, historical and social significances.
TKB Southgate Associates were appointed to assist at design stage with the sensitive redevelopment of the area. Using the principles of the I.C.O.M.O.S. Charters and in co-operation with the U.C.C. Historic Buildings Unit a strategy was formulated which ensured the historic texture and heritage of the area was respected and represented whilst allowing for modern development of Corks inner city.
