The Anglo-Normans began construction of substantial stone defences in Waterford in the early thirteenth century. The walls are the best preserved and most intact urban medieval walls in Ireland containing substantial surviving tower elements and curtain defences spread throughout vibrant Waterford city centre.
TKB Southgate and Associates were brought on board to form a long term conservation strategy for the existing Waterford City Walls and to insure the highest standard of conservation work. We strive to do this in a way that is sympathetic to the different phases of construction and the architectural additions to the wall over the centuries. Our work has increased the visibility of the surviving wall sections in a way that enhances the modern built environment they occupy. TKB Southgate and Associates are at present project managing all work done on the wall, insuring best conservation practices are applied throughout. This includes dealing with consent issues,
detailing conservation specifications and co-ordinating sub contractors.
